Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation training takes place at multiple facilities including Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, Moss Rehab Hospital, Crozer-Chester Hospital, Bryn Mawr, and A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.

At Thomas Jefferson University Hospital residents spend time in the inpatient rehabilitation service, managing consultations, treating outpatients, and working with the acute spinal cord injury service. Jefferson is a part of the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley and is designated as one of the nations 16 Model Spinal Cord Injury Centers by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).

Residents also do much of their training at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. Magee is a freestanding rehabilitation hospital that serves a broad range of patients including: stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, post-operative orthopedic patients, amputees, and a variety of musculoskeletal disorders. Residents spend time on both inpatient and outpatient services. Magee is also a part of the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley

Some training takes place at Crozer-Chester Medical Center which gives residents the opportunity to experience rehabilitation medicine at a community-based hospital. In addition residents are exposed to burn rehabilitation.

At A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, residents get the opportunity to participate in many different facets of pediatric rehabilitation. Residents participate in both inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient clinics including Spinal Dysfunction Clinic, Baclofen pump clinic, electromyography (EMG) studies, and general rehabilitation visits. In addition, residents follow the progress of patients in the Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Program (CORP)—a day hospital program for children who would benefit from continued intensive rehabilitation as an outpatient.
