Program Activities

The Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine offers abundant learning opportunities. Of course, the mainstay is the daily teaching rounds during clinical rotations, which include radiology rounds. In addition, there are didactic sessions, some of which are done in conjunction with the other fellowship programs within our system. These activities include:

  • Basic Research Training
  • Statistics Course
  • Pediatric/Newborn Grand Rounds

Other teaching opportunities are specific to the Neonatology Program and include:

  • Orientation Lectures on Ventilator Management and ECMO
  • Neonatal-Perinatal Rounds
  • Fellow Research Conference
  • Fellow Physiologic Lecture Series (weekly lectures that cover the entire content of the subspecialty certifying examination)
  • Neonatal Journal Club
  • Classic Journal Club
  • Fellow Board Review
  • Laboratory Rounds
  • Quality Improvement Seminar
  • Professionalism/Communication Seminar
  • Morbidity and Mortality Conference
  • Fetal Therapy Conference

For those fellows interested in pursuing an additional degree, Thomas Jefferson University has three such opportunities:

  • NIH-Sponsored Masters in Human Clinical Investigation
  • Masters in Public Health
  • Masters of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety

These may be pursued in conjunction with or following fellowship— and would fulfill the Scholarly Activity requirement of the American Board of Pediatrics.
