Asthma Day is an event aimed to provide education and awareness about asthma for children in Philadelphia. Our pediatric residents and members of Nemours Public Relations at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children host the event each year and multiple residents participate. Residents talk to the children about asthma medications, triggers and smoking prevention. Games are used to show kids how our lungs change during an asthma attack. The children have fun getting their faces painted. Everyone is entertained by a juggler and a prevention rapper, “Ain’t No Puff Daddy”. Nurses provide free flu shots to all the children despite some sad faces, and Respiratory Therapists check their nebulizers. All the children and participants have a great time and breathe easier, “wheeze free”, at the end of the day.
