Pediatrics

The main training site for the pediatrics program is the beautiful Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children located in Wilmington, DE. It is a 172-bed hospital with 240 full-time pediatricians and specialists. It boasts one of the regions largest pediatric rehabilitation inpatient units with 20 beds. The hospital began in 1940 as primarily an orthopedic hospital and in 1985 expanded to a full service pediatric hospital.

The duPont Hospital for Children is rapidly growing every year and attracts some of the highest quality physicians in the region. It’s background in treating children with orthopedic needs makes it uniquely suited as a rehabilitation center as well.

In addition to duPont Hospital, much of our training takes place at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the duPont at Jefferson Pediatrics outpatient clinic. The hospital has a general pediatric unit, well baby nursery, and a neonatal intensive care unit which serves as a regional ECMO center.

We are also affiliated with the Christiana Care Healthcare System and residents rotate through their Labor and Delivery unit, well baby nursery and their 70-bed special care nursery. The hospital has one of the regions’ busiest labor and delivery services, giving residents the opportunity to attend many normal and high-risk deliveries and become comfortable with neonatal resuscitation skills.
