In 2007, the hospital undertook a dramatic renovation of their intensive care units for cardiology and neonatology. The result was a tremendous success that incorporated the latest technologies and provided an environment conducive to the care and management of these medically complex patients.
There are approved designs for the creation of a new inpatient bed tower, integrated with the existing intensive care and surgery facilities on the second floor of our current structure. A significant part of the design will also be the new atrium to open up access to the hospital and offer a friendlier, welcoming approach consistent with the manner of the Nemours Associates who are part of the team. The atrium will infuse light and offer a focal point for way-finding through the revitalized entity.
Nemours has placed a new sign on the 60 acre Lake Nona site to identify the location of its top-tier pediatric health care campus. This sign marks the southwest region of the property at the corner of Lake Nona Boulevard and the newly named Nemours Parkway, which runs along the southern edge of the site. In mid-June, Nemours has acquired land in the Lake Nona Science and Technology Park that will position the pediatric campus in close proximity to the UCF College of Medicine, Burnham Institute for Medical Research and the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Nemours broke ground on its integrated pediatric health system in 2009, allowing enough time for the organization to comfortably fulfill its Certificate of Need (CON) requirements to the state. The health system plans to open its doors to children and families in 2012.
