President's Message

Dear Colleagues: 

Welcome to Nemours/Alfred I. dupont Hospital for Children Medical Staff web page. The Medical Staff continues to function under the leadership of the Medical Executive Committee and the reorganized committee structure established in 2007.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) and highlight its various functions.  

The 2011-2013 MEC is comprised of the following members:

• Chief Nursing Executive – Louanne Stratton, PhD, RN
• Department Chairperson Representative – Jay Greenspan, MD
• Division Chief Representative – Joseph Napoli, MD

The MEC works closely with the Medical Staff Office and oversees the affairs of the Medical Staff at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. The committee reviews reports from various clinical departments, the department of Nursing, Graduate Medical Education, Peer Review, and Strategic and Planning committees. The MEC approves credentialing / privileging of new providers and reappointments to the Medical Staff. The MEC assures that revised and new medical staff polices are consistent with the Medical Staff Bylaws and meet the regulatory standards. The committee meets monthly and requires a quorum of 7 members to conduct the meeting. 

The Medical Staff convenes as a whole in the spring and fall of each year. Members of the active Medical Staff are required to attend. Members in other medical staff categories are welcome to attend.

I encourage new members to complete the Medical Staff Orientation Program regarding key procedures as well as the expectations of membership.
