Welcome to Assistive Technology!
Clinical Assistive Technology Services (CATS) at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children offers complete Augmentative Communication and Computer Access evaluations as well as individual therapy, consultation to community-based therapists and educators, and assistance with set-up and customization of communication aids.
While the majority of services are conducted on an outpatient basis at duPont Hospital for Children, on-site services in schools and other facilities are available as needed. All services are designed to help children and youth utilize appropriate communication aids to supplement their natural speech and writing and to communicate and learn more effectively in their homes, schools and communities.
The multi-disciplinary program includes Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Engineering services, assuring that a child's communication and learning needs and skills can be considered from all perspectives. For instance, an "Occupational Therapy Evaluation" component can be added to the Speech Language Pathology service when a child has significant visual, fine motor, or sensory processing involvement that may influence his/her effective use of a low- or high-tech communication system.
All evaluation, therapeutic training, and consultation services actively seek to build collaboration between a child, his parents and family members, his community-based therapists and educators, and our clinic staff.
Teamwork is necessary in order to facilitate the child’s most effective and functional use of his skills and/or technologies in all environments and domains of his life.
