Limb Length Discrepancy Program

The Limb Length Discrepancy Program is a comprehensive program addressing the needs of children from birth through age 18 who have a limb deformity or limb length inequality. The Limb Length Discrepancy Program provides diagnostic evaluation and treatment designed to improve function and well-being. The Program uses a team approach, combining the expertise of an orthopedic surgeon, radiologist, physical therapist, and orthotist. The Program also consults with specialists from the hospitals Genetics, Therapeutic and Rehabilitation Services, and Behavioral Health divisions. Both surgical and non-surgical treatment options are available, including shoe lifts, bracing, limb lengthening, and limb shortening.

Services Available:

  • Limb Lengthening and Realignment Guide
  • Exercise program development
  • Epiphysiodesis (surgical slowing of growth)

Acquired problems may include:

  • Trauma (bone fractures)
