Orthopedics
Having been devoted exclusively to children's orthopedics for more than 40 years, the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has long provided regional, national and international leadership in the field. We provide comprehensive care for all children with adolescent bone, joint, muscular and nerve conditions. The specialized services available are treatment and correction for congenital and acquired orthopedic conditions, such as clubfoot and hip dislocation, scoliosis and spinal disorders, gait and leg length discrepancies, cerebral palsy, skeletal dysplasia, arthrogryposis, upper extremity problems, fractures and sports injuries. An excellent Cast Room and Brace, Orthotic and Prosthetic shops provide support.
The department works closely with Medical Imaging, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and Rehabilitation to provide an excellent program of orthopedic treatment. The hospital offers an impressive range of orthopedic outpatient services in clinics staffed Monday through Friday. With capabilities for daily evaluations, patients are admitted to the hospital when surgical correction is required. Full orthopedic coverage for fractures, injuries and other emergencies is available for emergency cases.
The Department of Orthopedics is also a national and international teaching center for training pediatric orthopedic surgeons. Residents and fellows from several major academic institutions both here and abroad receive orthopedic training at the duPont Hospital for Children.
