What are things to watch out for?
- In metatropic patients, any change in walking ability, endurance or breathing should merit further assessment by a physician to rule out spinal cord compression. Specific neurological symptoms such as tingling or numbness in the arms or legs, weakness, shooting leg or arm pain, or problems controlling bladder/ bowel function should be investigated further.
- One should also watch out for progressive curvature of the spine. Headache, vomiting, visual disturbances, and loss of consciousness are signs of increased pressure around the brain; possibly due to worsening hydrocephalus.
