Social Work

Hospitalization and medical treatments can result in stress and other problems for both patients and parents. The Social Work department at the hospital has professionals available to help with counseling services, crisis intervention and assisting the family in finding community resources. Social Workers coordinate the discharge plan for the patient, providing assistance with financial or insurance matters, locating necessary programs, and advocating on behalf of the patients and families. In addition, Social Work conducts a number of specialized support groups and meetings for families, including:

  • Siblings of special needs children
  • Parents of children with developmental disabilities
  • Training for children with social skills deficits.
  • Parents of critically ill children
  • Parents/siblings of children with cystic fibrosis
  • Parents who have children in the Rehabilitation Program
  • Siblings of children with cancer
