2009 SafeKids Day Wrap Up

On April 18, over 500 children and their families came to Bellevue State Park for Safe Kids Day, featuring live demonstrations and safety exhibits. Safe Kids New Castle County is a partnership of organizations whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury, a leading killer of children, ages 14 and under. Nemours is the lead sponsor in Safe Kids Day.

Inside the barn, there was a bike rodeo, where children learned the ‘rules of the road’ while biking. Children who visited our safety booths were eligible for free bike helmets and 200 children qualified for a helmet!

Over 25 safety displays allowed families to learn about poison prevention, healthy eating, water safety and fire prevention tips. Radio Disney provided live entertainment with music and dancing. Door prizes were offered throughout the day, including a basket of safety goods from the Nemours Safety Store, a first aid gym bag from duPont Hospital, tickets to the Wilmington Blue Rocks and Orioles games, gift cards from Kohl’s, Dunkin Donuts and Babies R Us, a Philadelphia KiXX soccer pack and much more.

Outside, children climbed on emergency vehicles and visited the Fire Safety Smokehouse. Trained technicians correctly installed 43 child passenger seats into their parent’s vehicles at the car seat safety station.
