Risk Watch
What is Risk Watch?
Risk Watch® is a comprehensive injury prevention curriculum that focuses on the eight major risk areas that kill or injure the most children in Delaware and across the nation:
- motor vehicle crashes
- unintentional firearm incidents
- fires and burns
- choking, suffocation, and strangulation
- poisoning
- falls
- bike and pedestrian hazards
- water hazards
In the United States, unintentional injuries are more fatal to children than drugs and diseases combined, annually killing nearly 6,000 kids and permanently disabling nearly 120,000. Risk Watch is an age appropriate injury prevention curriculum developed for pre-school through eighth grade students. Linking teachers with community safety experts and parents, Risk Watch effectively teaches children and their families the skills and knowledge they need to be safe from the areas that pose the greatest risk for unintentional injuries. The curriculum meets Delaware language arts and health education standards and covers the eight leading injury areas for children.
