Sharon S. Lehman, MD, Invested as the First Robison D. Harley, MD, PhD, Endowed Chair of Pediatric Ophthalmology

Robison D Harley MD PhD charitable trustThe Nemours Partnership for Children’s Health and the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children today announced that Robison D. Harley, MD, PhD, has established a charitable trust through his will to endow a chair in pediatric ophthalmology at the hospital. For a donor to endow a chairmanship, a gift of $1 million or more is required. Sharon S. Lehman, MD, Chief, Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery will be the first holder of this chair.

Dr. Lehman was invested as the Robison D. Harley, MD Endowed Chair of Pediatric Ophthalmology at a ceremony held today at the hospital. Dr. Harley was also honored at the event for his vision and generosity in providing annual support in perpetuity for the Division of Ophthalmology as well as ongoing funding for work in molecular genetics.

Dr. Harley is the editor of Harley’s Pediatric Ophthalmology, the premier textbook in the field, now in its fifth printing. A graduate of Rutgers University, Dr. Harley earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA and his PhD from the University of Minnesota, Rochester, MN. After practicing in Atlantic City, New Jersey for a number of years, Dr. Harley joined the faculty of Temple University where he later chaired the department.

Dr. Lehman is a graduate of the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA and earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA, where she is now a Clinical Associate Professor of both Ophthalmology and Pediatrics. Dr. Lehman, was named “Physician of the Year” by the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in 2003.
