Nemours, one of the nation’s largest children’s health systems, headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., announced today two leadership appointments effective immediately. R. Jay Cummings, MD, is promoted to Chief Executive of the Practice for Florida Operations, and Jeff Green is appointed Chief Administrative Officer for Nemours Florida. Both positions will report to David J. Bailey, MD, MBA, Chief Operating Officer of Nemours.

“These positions will continue to increase our efficiency in the delivery of medical quality, business performance and clinical direction,” said Dr. Bailey. “Both appointments will allow us to better meet the needs of our patients as well as to build on the strengths of Nemours’ health professionals, ensuring that care continues to be timely, appropriate and safe.”

These system leadership appointments bring Nemours closer to achieving its long-term vision of linking pursuit of excellence in medical care with community-based integrated health services to achieve and sustain health and wellness for all children. They are a natural next step in advancing Nemours health system redesign that began with integration of the physician group with the hospital in Delaware and continued with Nemours’ creation of a distinct, unified national physician practice. The Florida appointments parallel a leadership structure that Nemours has established in the Delaware Valley.Dr Cummings

Dr. Cummings will assume medical leadership of the Florida practices that includes operations in Jacksonville, Orlando and Pensacola. He will retain his medical directorship of the Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, where he has been since 1987. Cummings is Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Orthopedics, and holds the academic title of Associate Professor, Department of Orthopedics, at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.

Green’s responsibilities will be directed toward the establishment of a Nemours children’s hospital in Florida. This includes activities involving the Certificate of Need, planning the physical structure and palette of services, community relations and other duties.

Jeff GreenGreen brings more than twenty years of hospital leadership experience to Nemours. Most recently, he served as Chief Executive Officer for St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA. In addition, Green previously served as Executive Director for Humana Hospital Lucerne, where he was selected to the Humana Club, the company’s highest honor for exceptional performance. He also played an integral role in the design and development of two hospitals for Tenet Healthcare - the Tenet/Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and the USC University Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. During his time with Tenet Healthcare, Green received the Circle of Excellence Award, the organization’s highest honor for patient and operational success.

Nemours welcomes Green and congratulates Dr. Cummings and Green on their leadership appointments.

Nemours employs over 4,400 individuals, including 430 pediatric physicians, specialists and surgeons who cared for approximately a quarter of a million children in 2007.
