"Providing Patient-Centered Care" January 21 - 25

National Medical Group Practice WeekNemours Children's Clinic in Pensacola, FL, proudly supports National Medical Group Practice Week, taking place Jan. 21-25, 2008, by bringing safety awareness to its Associates, patients and their families. National Medical Group Practice Week is intended to advance public and industry awareness of the key benefits that group practices provide to patients, communities and physicians and to recognize the professionals who lead and manage these organizations.

This year’s celebration is themed around “Providing Patient-Centered Care.” Nemours takes great pride in making patient safety a top priority. Recently implemented safety programs at Nemours focus on providing patient-centered care. Such programs include patient identification arm banding to accurately check patient identification; reminders to wash hands before each patient visit; distribution of patient safety brochures; and mini safety seminars on disaster planning for patients with complex illnesses. A variety of awareness activities will take place throughout the week at Nemours for Associates and patients such as daily safety tips, Safety Coloring Books, a Patient Centered Care Kit, and more.

“Through this week’s activities, we’re hoping to further connect with the community of Nemours and help demonstrate how medical group practices are both a community asset and a great way to deliver care,” said Eve Taylor, Quality Coordinator for Nemours Pensacola. “Our group serves as a clinical leader and a valued employer.”

As defined by MGMA, a medical group practice is a legal entity (such as a partnership, professional corporation or foundation) in which three or more physicians practice medicine and share resources, such as clinical and administrative facilities, records and personnel. A group practice may include multiple specialties or physicians in a single specialty.

Nemours offers an integrated spectrum of clinical treatment coupled with research, advocacy, and educational health and prevention services extending to all families in the communities it serves. Nemours owns and operates the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware and major children’s specialty clinics in Delaware (Wilmington), Florida (Jacksonville, Orlando and Pensacola), Pennsylvania (Philadelphia and Bryn Mawr) and New Jersey (Atlantic City and Voorhees). Having recently received preliminary approval from the State of Florida, Nemours will establish a new full-service children’s hospital as part of an integrated pediatric health campus in Orlando. KidsHealth.org, the world’s most visited pediatric health care Web site for parents, kids and teens, is a project of Nemours.

Nemours employs over 4,400 individuals, including 430 pediatric physicians, specialists and surgeons who cared for approximately a quarter of a million children in 2007. The organization’s goal is to align with parents, physicians, community leaders, children’s advocates and elected officials to ensure optimal wellness for every child.
