Nemours’ KidsHealth®Wins Webby and People’s Voice Award, Topping the Shortlist for International Honor for the Web
FL, May 7, 2008: The 12th Annual Webby Awards has named KidsHealth.org a double Webby Award winner as Best Family/Parenting Site of 2008 and the Webby’s 2008 People’s Voice Award in the same category.
KidsHealth.org, the most-visited website devoted to children’s health and parenting, is created by the physician-directed, professional editorial staff of the Nemours Center for Children’s Health Media – unique in the nation with its exclusive focus on children’s health media. The 2008 Webby Awards mark KidsHealth’s third and fourth Webby Awards since 2004.
Hailed as “the Internet’s highest honor” by the New York Times, the Webby Awards are the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including websites, interactive advertising, online film and video, and mobile websites. The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA’s Chief Bob Greenberg, “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening, Arianna Huffington, and Harvey Weinstein.
“It is a great honor for Nemours to receive both the Webby and the People’s Voice Award for the Family/Parenting category,” says Neil Izenberg, MD, editor-in-chief and founder of Nemours’ KidsHealth. “Nemours is a unique organization that not only provides great health care directly to children and families, but also creates some of the world’s best online health information tailored to the needs of parents, kids, and teens. We want to help families to take care of themselves, too. That’s an important part of our mission.”
Nemours clinicians help to create and medically review the award-winning KidsHealth content. They are recognized as experts around the world – but more important, kids can call them their own.
The 12th Annual Webby Awards received a record 9,500 entries from more than 60 countries and all 50 states. KidsHealth joins other prominent 2008 winners from across the globe, including NYTimes.com, Apple, Wired.com, Flickr, and many others.
