Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death of American children ages 1 to 14 years. Many parents and caregivers are unaware of the risks around the home and on the road that present a danger to their children. The Injury Prevention Program at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children focuses on preventing childhood injury. Programs in several different risk areas are offered including: car safety, bike safety and home safety.
FREE Child Passenger Safety Check
Car safety is very important, as motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death and injury in children. Ensuring your child’s car seat is correctly installed is critical to their safety. Young children restrained in a child safety seat have an 80 percent lower risk of fatal injury than those who are unrestrained. Unfortunately, 4 of 5 child passenger seats are incorrectly installed.
Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Seat inspections are offered on Wednesday evenings at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. A nationally certified technician will help explain how to properly install your child’s safety seat, FREE of charge. The CPS checks are held Wednesday evenings from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the parking garage of the hospital.
An appointment is required. Call (302) 651-5437 to schedule an appointment.
