Among top 10% of continuing medical education providers in country

Nemours, one of the nation’s premier pediatric health systems, recently received “Accreditation with Commendation” from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. This award is the highest level of accreditation in the country and, on average, only 10% of CME providers achieve this designation. The honor is indicative of Nemours commitment to improving the quality of care for patients and providing the latest evidence-based CME for not only its physicians, but those that seek training nationally and internationally.

The accreditation is the result of a year-long reaccreditation process that included a self-study report, evidence of performance-in-practice and an on-site accreditation interview conducted by ACCME reviewers. Nemours met each of 22 criteria covering essential areas, elements and policies specified by ACCME. The accrediting body specifically cited Nemours as having an environment that supports “physician learning and change that is a part of a system for quality improvement.”

“Providing the best education on the latest advances in medicine will help us achieve our strategic goal of being in the top five percent of child health institutions nationally, in terms of patient satisfaction and targeted health and quality outcomes,” said Dr. Pamela Arn, Nemours Director of Education.

Nemours Office of CME supports physicians in their commitment to life-long learning by assisting them in identifying their educational needs and designing educational activities that will enhance physician competence and provide the impetus for improvement in physician performance. Nemours offers many different types of educational activities which include live courses, regularly scheduled conferences, Internet/online enduring materials at PedsEducation.org and point-of-care learning. These courses extend beyond Nemours to educate thousands of subspecialty and primary care physicians in the communities it serves and throughout the world.

As a result of the commendation status, Nemours will be given an additional two years for a total of six before needing to go through the mandatory accreditation process again.
