Wilmington, DE – Daisies filled the Main Lobby of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children on Tuesday, April 27, as UnitedHealthcare and The DAISY Foundation presented the hospital’s first DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses to Roxanne Boucher, RN. This national program recognizes nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.
“Out of more than 650 nurses here at the duPont Hospital, we received over 200 DAISY nominations in just this first quarter and the vast majority of these nominations were directly from our patients and their families,” said Louanne Stratton, PhD, RN, Chief Nurse Executive at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. “There is no better testament to the caliber of our nurses and the quality of nursing care we provide.”
Each month, nurses in 579 participating hospitals across the United States are nominated by their nurse administrators, peers, physicians, patients and families to receive The DAISY Award. The duPont Hospital for Children is the first in Delaware to offer this recognition program for its nurses. The award recipients receive a pin, certificate, and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
Maryann Heitmann, whose son received care at the duPont Hospital nominated Roxanne Boucher and in her nomination form stated: “Not enough words describe the outstanding care provided to my son…In addition to the outstanding medical care, the calm reassuring manner she displayed with me, Mom, was worlds apart from all the other outstanding staff members.”
