Wilmington, DE – The Nemours Fund for Children’s Health, the philanthropic arm of the Nemours Children’s Health System, honored Dino Carbone with its Inspiration Award on October 25, 2010. The award, presented at a gathering of The Nemours Society held on the campus of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, was established to recognize someone who personifies philanthropy, not only through their own personal generosity, but in encouraging others to support Nemours and the children it serves.
Carbone, Nemours’ Administrative Director of Materials Management, has been with the organization for eight years. He chairs the Sponsorship Committees for A Night at Nemours, the hospital’s annual black-tie gala, as well as the annual gala held to benefit Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Carbone has raised a total of $2 million in sponsorships for both events.
Carbone and his wife Deborah were among the first members of The Nemours Society, which honors and recognizes annual donors of $1,000 or more. He has been an enthusiastic advocate for philanthropy at Nemours.
A native of Detroit, Carbone now resides in Garnet Valley, PA with his wife and children. In accepting the award, Carbone said: “Nemours is an organization that places excellent and compassionate care for children first and foremost, which is most admirable in a financially driven world. Nemours is the perfect example of why I entered the health care field 30 years ago. I embrace the mission of Nemours and I love my job. I could not ask for more.
“What inspires me to give back is the fact that I am fortunate to have two wonderful children. Every day, I am witness to the many difficulties sick children and their families face. Every day, I feel emotion for them. Knowing that they depend on us, I want to do more than my job. I want to do whatever I can to help.”
Past recipients of the Inspiration Award are Richard T. Christopher of Wilmington, DE, CEO of Patterson Schwartz Real Estate, and David F. Lyons, Sr., of Rehoboth Beach, DE, CEO of The Lyons Companies.
