Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is pleased to announce the addition of pediatric neurosurgeon Joseph Howard Piatt, Jr., MD, FAAP, to our Division of Neurosurgery.
Dr. Piatt is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. His post-graduate training consisted of an internship in general surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, residency in neurosurgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC, and fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.
After a tour on active duty in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Dr. Piatt joined the faculty of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University, where he served as the pediatric neurosurgeon at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. In 2000 he returned to the East Coast to become Chief of the Section of Neurosurgery at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. He has been active in the American Academy of Pediatrics, recently finishing 4 years as Chair of the Section on Neurological Surgery. Currently he is beginning a year-long term as Chair of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Piatt to duPont Hospital,” says Jeffrey Campbell, MD, Chief, Division of Neurosurgery. “His years of dedicated service to children in the Delaware Valley and his national leadership in organized pediatric neurosurgery will be a tremendous asset to our patients, staff, and the Division of Neurosurgery.”
With this addition, the Division of Neurosurgery now has two board-certified pediatric neurosurgeons who care solely for children.
