Wilmington, DE – The Nemours Swim4Kids with Michael Phelps fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at Thomas McKean High School in Wilmington, DE. Proceeds will support the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, and Nemours’ KidsHealth.org, the #1 most-visited website in the world with health information for parents, kids, and teens.
Nemours cares for more than 250,000 children annually, providing world-class health care and hope to children. Nemours’ KidsHealth provides doctor-approved health information to parents, kids, teens, and educators online, and to hospitalized patients and their families.
Swim4Kids is much like a traditional walk-a-thon, but in a pool. Lanes will be available at McKean High School between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Oct. 16. Participants who wish to fundraise can register as individuals or as part of a team (five-person maximum). Corporate and private sponsorships are also available.
Individual swimmers or teams who raise a minimum of $1,000 will qualify for a 30-minute lane. Fundraising incentives include a swim cap autographed by Michael Phelps, a 30-minute swim clinic led by Phelps, and the opportunity to participate in a team relay with Michael Phelps in the pool. Swimmers of all ages and skill level are encouraged to participate.
“Swim4Kids is a great way for the community to get involved and help support the mission and work of Nemours,” says Tom Ferry, duPont Hospital Senior Vice President, Hospital Operations. “Nemours has been caring for children for over 70 years, and we recently celebrated our 1 billionth visit to KidsHealth.org. We are always grateful for opportunities like Swim4Kids to help us continue to provide the best care and resources for children and their families.”
“I started the Michael Phelps Foundation to help grow the sport of swimming and encourage kids to live active and healthy lifestyles,” says 14-time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps. “Through the Foundation, we partnered with Nemours’ KidsHealth.org to develop the health and wellness curriculum for our im program and the feedback has been extremely positive. I’m happy to be a part of Nemours Swim4Kids because it benefits an organization that is committed to making kids healthy in so many ways. I hope to see lots of people swimming on October 16!”
Following the swim portion of the event, swimmers will be invited to attend a celebration with Michael Phelps from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m at McKean High School. Each swimmer may bring one guest for an additional $25 donation.
Nemours Swim4Kids is an indoor event and will be held rain or shine. Thomas McKean High School is at 301 McKennan's Church Road, Wilmington, DE, 19808. For more information or to register for the event, visit Swim4Kids.org or call (877) 427-9777, ext. 2.
