Nemours Center for Childhood Cancer Research (NCCCR) is developing novel ways to deliver anti-cancer drugs that cause fewer short- and long-term side effects as well as techniques to identify bio-markers that will assist in earlier diagnosis of leukemia and other cancer.
“During this holiday season, it is up to all of us to help kids suffering from cancer and other diseases,” said Lynn Betros, development associate with the Nemours Fund for Children’s Health. “We applaud Tropical Smoothie in Jacksonville for standing with us as we work to protect the health and joy of these children.”

About The Division of Hematology/Oncology
The Division of Hematology/Oncology at the Nemours Children’s Clinic, Jacksonville (NCCJ) treats children with a variety of cancers and blood disorders including leukemia, neuroblastoma, brain tumors, kidney and liver tumors, bone cancer, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia through world-class programs, services and research. The Division is at the forefront of clinical trials and research as it is part of a worldwide group of children’s cancer specialists and institutions called the Children’s Oncology Group (or COG). The organization conducts research to identify cancer causes and pioneer state-of-the-art treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Nemours’ participation in COG allows the organization to offer the best cancer care available by providing treatments proven to be the most effective and access to clinical trials of promising new therapies that aim to reduce side effects and improve kids’ quality of life. Through collaborative partnerships, NCCJ is also able to offer rare treatments like bone marrow transplantation with the Mayo Clinic and proton beam therapy with the University of Florida that specifically targets solid tumors, rather than affecting healthy tissue around it. Only six centers in the country offer proton beam therapy and the collaboration in Jacksonville is now servicing children from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the United Kingdom.
