The Nemours Fund for Children's Health honored Jack Porter with its Inspiration Award.

Wilmington, DE – The Nemours Fund for Children’s Health, the philanthropic arm of Nemours, honored Jack Porter with its Inspiration Award in October. The award, presented at a gathering of The Nemours Society held on the campus of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, was established to recognize someone who personifies philanthropy not only through their own personal generosity but in encouraging others to support Nemours and the children and families it serves.

Porter has enthusiastically supported Nemours for  more than 40 years and in a variety of capacities. Long a presence in the Wilmington community, Porter has been a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust since 1995, served as chair of the Delaware Board of Managers for eight years, and is a member and former chair of the Nemours Board of Directors.

Porter joined Delaware Trust Company in 1958, becoming president in 1979 and chairman and CEO from 1988 until his retirement in 1997. He has been involved in supporting many community interests, including the Grand Opera House, Winterthur Museum and Gardens and the Delaware Business Roundtable. He and his wife, Ann, are founding members of The Nemours Society, which honors annual donors of $1,000 or more.

In 2010, Porter agreed to co-chair, along with fellow board member Dick Christopher, the Our Children, Our Hospital capital campaign for the expansion of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Since then, he has been an almost daily presence on the hospital campus, attending meetings, calling on prospective donors, writing letters and serving as a tireless advocate for the campaign.

Dick Christopher, CEO of Patterson Schwartz Real Estate and a past Inspiration Award winner said, “Jack’s calm demeanor and confident support of Nemours is a true inspiration to us all. I learn something from him every time we are together. If Nemours had a color, Jack would bleed it. Jack is the perfect choice for the Inspiration Award.”
