Wilmington, DE – On Friday, June 24, 2011, Nemours announced the formation of The Nemours Kids Transport Program. This transport service is owned, operated, and staffed by Nemours, providing an immediate introduction to the "Nemours Experience" for patients and their families.
“We are mobilizing the great care patients and their families have come to expect at Nemours by providing door-to-door service for our patients who come to us from other facilities throughout Delaware and the Delaware Valley,” remarked Dr. Kevin Churchwell, CEO of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for
Children and Nemours Senior Vice President.
With this announcement came the formal dedication of the Nemours Kids Transport Program’s brand new fleet of ambulances. The Nemours Kids Transport Program is not a 911 emergency service, but a service that transports patients from other licensed health care facilities to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children for specialized pediatric care and support, by referral only. Local dignitaries, including United States Senator Thomas Carper were in attendance for this dedication.
Functioning as a mobile intensive care unit, the Transport Team is specially trained and experienced in the care of children with acute and complex medical needs. The Transport Team includes pediatric critical care physicians, critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, emergency medical technicians, and communication specialists.
“While Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has provided a transport service to the community since 1993, it just makes good sense to bring this service in-house, both from a clinical perspective as well as a business perspective,” explained Diane Hochstuhl, Trauma Transport Director at duPont Hospital for Children. “Owning the entire transport program ensures we offer to our patients, families, and referring customers Nemours quality service from door-to-door.”
The Nemours Kids Transport program creates 22 new jobs and establishes a fleet of three Nemours-owned ambulances.
