Radiothon a Huge Success

Wilmington, DE – On September 7 and 8, 2011, the “Help Our Kids” radiothon was held in the Main Lobby at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. For 24 hours (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day), the lobby was buzzing with the sounds of five different Delmarva Broadcasting Company radio stations as they shared with their listeners stories of hope, courage, and compassion that happen in our hospital every day. As the clock hit 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, the total amount raised was announced: $102,124.83.

Donations came steadily throughout the two-day radiothon via a phone bank and online giving as well as in person, as people walking in to the lobby were inspired by what they were witnessing. The highest single donation came from 11 local New Castle County Domino’s Pizza shops, who presented a check for $30,196.

“To raise more than $100,000 is just amazing, and 100% of money will go to help the kids in our care at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children," says Marie Hiddemen, Special Events and Corporate Relations Manager, Nemours Fund for Children's Health. “We could not have done this without the support of Delmarva Broadcasting Company, the many sponsors, the hundreds of volunteers, and all in the community who tuned in and supported us these past two days.”

“In my nearly eight years with Nemours, this is truly one of my proudest moments,” says Paul Kempinski, Chief Operating Officer, duPont Hospital for Children. “This outpouring of support from our community is overwhelming. I thank each and every person who donated, the families who shared their stories, and my fellow Nemours Associates who helped make this radiothon such as success. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Delmarva Broadcasting Company for donating their airwaves. We hope this is just the beginning of a long, thriving partnership.”
