Emergency Department

At Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, our Level II Pediatric Trauma and Emergency Department, offers a level of care and treatment philosophy that sets the standard for top pediatric care. We know how stressful it is for parents to bring their children to the Emergency Department (ED).

At Nemours, each Associate promises to do whatever it takes to care for your child. Don’t hesitate to ask anything or to let us know how to best help you and your child. We care for every child as if they were our own.

It is our goal to partner with your child’s primary care doctor to keep him or her updated about your child’s ED visit.  Primary care doctors are contacted either by fax or phone with details of your visit in order to provide your child with the best continuity of care.

Access to consultation with physicians in all pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties is readily available.  For your convenience, there is a medical imaging (radiology) room within the ED allowing your child to have X-rays taken quickly and efficiently.  A number of rapid tests can be performed in the ED while others are sent to the main laboratory.
