Frequently Asked Questions

How long will we have to wait?

Nemours Emergency Department is committed to providing high-quality emergency care as quickly as possible to all patients. We are a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, so we often receive and treat critically ill and critically injured patients. Children with life-threatening illnesses, such as those not breathing or uncontrolled bleeding, will take priority. Other children are seen in the order in which they arrive.

If my child is admitted, am I permitted to stay with him or her?

Yes, one adult family member may stay with a child overnight.

How far will the pagers reach?

Pagers will not reach outside the hospital or past the vending area. It is important to stay within the pager range so you don’t miss your turn.  Please do not take the pager outside, otherwise an alarm will sound.

What time is valet parking provided?

Valet parking is provided from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm at the Main Lobby and Outpatient Lobby. After 6:00 pm, your vehicle will be moved to the parking lot adjacent to the playground. Please see Security for keys.

What is a Child Life Specialist?

They can help answer your questions, offer support, facilitate positive coping, provide opportunities for distraction and non-pharmacological pain management, and prepare your child for any medical procedures.
