Where your Child will Stay

Patient care units are located on the second and third floors of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.  Intensive care units (Pediatric Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Cardiac Intensive Care) are located on the second floor.  These areas are for children who require intensive monitoring and one-on-one nursing.

The third floor units are for typical medical and surgical admissions.

Because we are a teaching hospital, your child will be on a “teaching service.” This means he or she will have coordinated care provided by a team consisting of attending doctors and doctors-in-training. The attending doctor, however, always provides direct supervision over your child’s care.

The health care team visits patients on every unit, every day. These visits are called “rounds.” Detailed rounds take place once a day, in the morning. Parents can generally ask questions at this time.

While your child is in the hospital, he or she will have access to a bedside computer. We are excited to provide pediatric patient entertainment and age-appropriate education at the bedside via the GetWellNetwork and KidsHealth.

A comprehensive suite of patient education videos will also be available at each bedside in our Emergency Department.
