A Clinical Trial to Evaluate Safety of Sitagliptin in Pediatric Patients With Type 2 Diabetes.
What is the trial about?
To learn if sitagliptin is safe in children 10 – 17 years old. This study will determine the effect of treatment with sitagliptin compared to placebo on A1c.
Who can participate?
Children ages 10-17 with Type 2 Diabetes.
What is involved?
Your child will visit the study doctor about 10 times over 56 weeks. Your child will be randomly assigned to a treatment group below.
Sitagliptin group — 1 tablet of Sitagliptin before the morning meal and 2 tablets of metformin-placebo before the morning and evening meals.
Placebo group — 1 tablet Sitagliptin-placebo before the morning meal and 2 tablets of metformin-placebo before the morning and evening meals.
If your child is currently taking insulin, their dosage of insulin will remain the same while they are participating in the study unless a study doctor feels a change to their insulin dose is required.
Study will require 7 blood draws, 2 bone age X-rays and 3 EKGs.
