The Nemours Summer Undergraduate Research Scholarship at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children will be accepting applications from December 5, 2011 to January 20, 2012 for the 2012 program.
The deadline for application is January 20, 2012.
Applicants must be undergraduate students with a minimum GPA of 3.2 and interested in basic and applied sciences, health care, or related fields.
For over 30 years, the Nemours Summer Undergraduate Research Program has been funding scholarships to undergraduate students for work on summer research projects. There are 10 scholarships available, and each scholarship recipient receives a monetary award. Current college students at the time of application are eligible.
During the 10 week paid scholarship program that begins June 4, 2012 and ends August 10, 2012, Nemours research faculty will guide students through the process of formulating and testing hypotheses, interpreting data, and communicating results.
Participation is required throughout the 10-week program. Projects sponsored by the program involve basic science and applied (clinical) research. Scholarship recipients are matched with scientist/physician mentors according to student's expressed interest in the projects, the student's background, and interest in the student by the mentors. Numerous enrichment activities integral to the program include lectures, seminars, participation in student led activities such as a journal club, and opportunities for clinical shadowing. On the final day of the program, a mandatory symposium is held during which Summer Research Students present their research activities to the Nemours community, family, and friends.
