The 6th Annual Cochlear Implant Symposium entitled, "Implanting the Malformed Inner Ear," and the 3rd Annual Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD) Training Course were held on the campus of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children on October 4-5, 2010. The event was a great success with 42 participants enrolled in the training course conducted by Thierry Morlet, PhD, and visiting professors Dr. Charles Berlin from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, and Dr. Linda Hood from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN.
The Symposium speakers provided an excellent discussion of topics related to pediatric inner ear malformations. Talks consisted of “From Introns to Inner Ear Malformations” by Ivan J. Keogh, MD, FRCS, University College Hospital Galway, Galway, Ireland; “Hearing Loss Associated with Enlargement of the Vestibular Aqueduct” by Andrew J. Griffith, MD, PhD, NIDCD, NIH; “Auditory and Vestibular Characteristics of Children with Enlarged Vestibular Aqueduct: the A.I. duPont Experience” by Christopher R. Grindle, MD, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children; “Surgical Issues in Implanting the Malformed Inner Ear” by Anil K. Lalwani, MD, FACS, New York University School of Medicine, New York, NY; and “Clinical Management of Implanted Children with Malformed Inner Ear: The Audiologist’s Perspective” by Gina Goulding, AuD; The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Once again, CPASS faculty were able to network and discuss important research topics related to the field.
