The central goal of the Center for Pediatric Research is to spawn pediatric research programs and principal investigators at Nemours, as well as expand our existing translational research programs on pediatric disorders.
Supported by a $10.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) program, and by the Nemours Foundation, the Center for Pediatric Research directs translational research programs to support clinical scientists and basic scientists establishing independent programs at Nemours. To accomplish this, investigators are provided with essential resources such as core laboratory services, technical and administrative expertise, and an enriched academic environment that includes research mentorship.
The Center supports the research programs of six target investigators whose work focuses on a broad range of pediatric conditions. Services have been developed or expanded to support the:
- Administrative Core
- Alterations and Renovations Core
- Bioinformatics Core
- Biomolecular Core Laboratory
- Cell Science Core Laboratory
- Clinical Research Services Core
- Flow Cytometry/FACS Core Laboratory
The program has recently received an additional $1.4 million in supplemental funding and has the potential to progress into advanced COBRE research over future years.
