Family member:
Any one of the following legally competent persons: Spouse; parents; children (including adopted children); brothers and sisters; and any individual related by blood or affinity whose close association with the subject is the equivalent of a family relationship. (HSP#048) (See Immediate Family)

Fetus: The product of conception from implantation until delivery. (HSP#070)

Finder’s fees: Payment of any type (cash, educational stipends, gift certificates, or anything else of value) to an individual or department made in exchange for referral or recruitment of a participant to a research study. (HSP#045)

Food & Drug Administration (FDA): Federal agency that regulates IRBs and clinical investigations involving drugs, medical devices, and biologics. The Federal agency that regulates IRBs and clinical investigations involving drugs, medical devices, and biologics. FDA regulations for the protection of human research subjects are found in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). E.g., 21CFR Parts 50 and 56. (HSP#034)

Foster Child: A ward who is in the temporary care of a family other than its own under some kind of short-term or long-term foster care arrangement with the custodial agency. (HSP#071)
