Cochlear Implants

Nemours has developed a comprehensive cochlear implant program for children between the ages of 12 months and 17 years. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted device for individuals with severe to profound hearing impairment who receive no benefit from hearing aids. A major advancement in the hearing field, cochlear implants are a promising option for children 12 months of age or older with congenital (from birth) as well as acquired deafness. Cochlear implants provide many children with the assistance they need to hear conversation and environmental sounds.

Our implant teams, which are comprised of experienced medical and clinical professionals, conduct evaluations and provide surgery and pre- and post-implant care including programming and rehabilitation.

It is the teams' commitment to provide long-term support to the child with implants and family. Another goal is to raise community and professional awareness and provide education about cochlear implants.

Services Available:

  • Cochlear-implantation surgery
  • Community and professional cochlear implant awareness and education
  • Comprehensive candidacy evaluation
  • Parent counseling regarding educational options
  • Postoperative habilitation (fitting, programming, and training)
