Nemours focuses on practices that allow children and families to live healthier lives. Our goal is to provide health information and encourage wellness development for all kids, including child safety.

The Injury Prevention Program at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is committed to decreasing the incidence of traumatic injuries through community-based child safety education programs. Nemours’ Injury Prevention Coordinators are also available to help inform parents, educators, and child safety advocates about injury prevention through presentations or displays
for health fairs.

Thanks to the generous support of Kohl’s Cares®, the Nemours’ Injury Prevention team has put together kids’ safety videos for families and schools.

Safe Kids

Safe Kids is a worldwide non-profit partnership of community organizations, including Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, dedicated to keeping children safe.

Safe Kids:
  • Teaches families about child safety, injury risks and prevention
  • Encourages and conducts research on leading injury risks
  • Evaluates solutions for injury risks
  • Works to pass and improve child safety laws and regulations
  • Provides lifesaving devices such as child safety seats, helmets, and smoke alarms to families who need them
  • Promotes corporate leadership in child safety through effective and sustainable partnerships

Safe Kids Events

Help teach children about safety while they have fun

Safe Kids Events teach children safety and injury prevention through fun, hands-on activities. Safe Kids has safety events in all 50 states, including car seat checks, educational workshops, and sports safety clinics.

Risk Watch

Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is proud to offer Risk Watch®, a comprehensive child safety curriculum developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

This curriculum is divided into four age-appropriate modules for grades pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. Linking teachers and parents with community child safety experts, Risk Watch effectively teaches children and their families the skills and knowledge they need to be safe from the areas that pose the greatest risk for unintentional injuries.

Helpful Tools

Risk Watch focuses on the eight major risk areas:
  • motor vehicle crashes
  • unintentional firearm incidents, fires, and burns
  • choking, suffocation, and strangulation
  • poisoning
  • falls
  • bike and pedestrian hazards
  • water hazards

AAA Keys2Drive

When your teen gets a driver's license, it's important to set some rules of the road beyond the relevant driving laws. By clearly defining your expectations before you hand over the car keys, you'll reduce the risk of frustrating conflicts, costly crashes, and other problems.

AAA has been involved in teen driver safety for 75 years and has a full range of tools to help parents and teens throughout the whole learning-to-drive process. Keys2Drive provides parents an easy way to work with their teens through each step from choosing a driver education program to deciding when to drive solo.

The Nemours Center for Sports Medicine

The Nemours Center for Sports Medicine offers training programs, group clinics, and athletic screenings. We strive to help prevent child and teen injuries as well as improve every young athletes' game including their: flexibility, strength, balance, agility, endurance, coordination, and stability.
