Dental Care

At Nemours, we believe it’s important for all children to have a positive dental care experience.

That’s why we strive to make your child’s dental appointments as pleasant and pain free as we possibly can. Our pediatric dentists are experts in providing care for infants, children, and adolescents up to age 18. We have particular expertise in caring for children with special health care needs. The visit takes place in a child-friendly and non- threatening environment.

For infants, we provide a first visit at 1 year old, at which time we’ll review the home oral care habits that can influence the future health of your child’s teeth (for example, not letting your child fall asleep with a milk or juice bottle at night). We’ll also discuss teething, thumb sucking, and other oral behaviors.

For children and adolescents, we focus on cavity prevention (including correct brushing and flossing techniques), dental-related dietary advice (such as avoiding sweets and getting enough calcium), and assessing the need for orthodontics.

Children who have severe anxiety, complex medical issues or other conditions that make it hard for them to cooperate may need medicine to put them to sleep (general anesthesia) during dental care, especially if they need lots of treatment.

Our staff includes two pediatric dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants. We provide both routine and specialized care, including emergency care for tooth injuries and other mouth trauma. We may consult with specialists from other medical and surgical areas, particularly when it comes to caring for children with complex needs, such as those who have had or who require oral maxillofacial surgery

Sedation Dentistry

Sometimes, quality dental care can best be performed under sedation or general anesthesia. We are pleased to offer both options at Nemours.

We partner with our skilled anesthesiologists and sedation specialists to create the safest environment for your child. Sedation is very successful with anxious, fearful, or orally defensive children, while general anesthesia is usually reserved for more involved dental work, including surgical reconstruction. Many private practice pediatric dentists send their patients to us specifically because of our team’s skill in providing excellent sedation dentistry.
