Doctors:

Pediatric ophthalmologists at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children have been selected as some of the “Best Doctors in America”.

Our physicians serve as medical advisors to national organizations dedicated to children’s eye health and are highly regarded leaders in the field of pediatric ophthalmology, working to advance the treatment of complex eye disorders such as retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).

Our doctors have published medical journal articles reviewing new guidelines on ROP screening and treatment, recent advances in therapies, and effective laser treatment options.

Yet what makes our doctors most exceptional is the special way they interact with children.

Children's Eye Care That's Truly Caring

When you bring your child to our clinic, you will find that our eye care team takes the time to explain each step of the eye examination — how eye drops work and feel, for example — and do all they can to help you and your child feel comfortable.

Our team members are particularly sensitive to the challenges that children with developmental delays may have in testing situations — and we're able help them get a complete and thorough eye examination with as little anxiety as possible.

And to make things easier for you as a parent or guardian, we'll do our best to coordinate your child's visit with other specialty appointments as needed.

A Reputation for Excellence

Children are referred to our Division of Ophthalmology by Nemours pediatric primary care doctors, as well as by trusted area pediatric providers, such as Brandywine Pediatrics.

Our expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of children’s eye disorders and injuries also draws patient-families from around the country and world to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

Advanced Testing

We are proud to provide some of the most advanced diagnostic testing adapted just for children, including Electroretinogram (ERG) Studies, which help monitor and diagnose retinal disorders and our new Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) Studies - a specialized electroencephalogram used to detect abnormalities related to electrical activity of the brain.

VEP Studies help diagnose and monitor optic nerve disorders, visual acuity problems and other medical conditions that affect the eyes such as:

  • Optic Neuritis
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Compressive Optic Neuropathy
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Unexplained Visual Acuity Loss

Training Tomorrow's Doctors

Nemours is also strongly committed to an educational mission and our pediatric ophthalmology fellowship trains future pediatric ophthalmologists in the field’s best practices.
