Ventricular Septal Defects

It’s often the tiniest hearts that need the most help from the start. That’s why Nemours pediatric heart experts specialize in early detection and repair of congenital heart defects. If your child’s been diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect, a hole in the wall between the right and left ventricles (ventricular septum), we’re here to ease your concerns, answer your questions, and give your child the best possible chance for a healthy future.

Our team of caring, board-certified pediatric cardiologists and experienced nurses at Nemours Children’s Clinic, Pensacola provides evaluation and management of heart disease for children (from birth through age 17) who are referred to us from physicians in and around Pensacola, as well as throughout the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama.

Our noninvasive (nonsurgical and noncardiac-catheterization) services include diagnostic tests such as cardiac ultrasounds, stress testing, and EKGs. And our colorful “child-like” echocardiogram room allows children to rest comfortably while watching a favorite video. The echocardiogram (also called an ultrasound of the heart) allows our cardiologists to “see” the heart within the chest — its structure and how the blood circulates through it.
