In metatropic patients, any change in walking ability, endurance or breathing should merit further assessment by a physician to rule out spinal cord compression. Specific neurological symptoms such as tingling or numbness in the arms or legs, weakness, shooting leg or arm pain, or problems controlling bladder/ bowel function should be investigated further.
One should also watch out for progressive curvature of the spine. Headache, vomiting, visual disturbances, and loss of consciousness are signs of increased pressure around the brain; possibly due to worsening hydrocephalus.
