Sedation Dentistry

Sometimes, a pediatric dentist can only provide the best dental care with the use of sedation or general anesthesia. We are pleased to offer both options at Nemours.

Our pediatric dentists partner with our skilled anesthesiologists and sedation specialists to create the safest environment for your child. Sedation is very successful with anxious, fearful, or orally defensive children, while general anesthesia is usually reserved for more involved dental work, including surgical reconstruction.

Many private practice pediatric dentists send their patients to us specifically because of our team’s skill in providing excellent sedation dentistry.

Routine, Specialized, and Emergency Care

Our pediatric dentists focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and irregularities involving the teeth, gums, and other tissues of the mouth. We provide both routine and specialized care, including emergency care for tooth injuries and other mouth trauma.

Our staff includes two pediatric dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants. We may consult with specialists from other medical and surgical areas, particularly when it comes to caring for children with complex needs, such as those who have had or who require oral surgery.

What To Expect At Your Pediatric Dentist Visit

We've created a child-friendly and non-threatening environment so your pediatric dental appointments are a pleasant experience.

For infants, we provide a first visit at one-year-old, at which time a pediatric dentist or hygienist will review the home oral care habits that can influence the future health of your child’s teeth (for example, not letting your child fall asleep with a milk or juice bottle at night). We’ll also discuss teething, thumb sucking, and other oral behaviors.

For children and adolescents, our pediatric dentists focus on cavity prevention (including correct brushing and flossing techniques), dental-related dietary advice (such as avoiding sweets and getting enough calcium), and assessing the need for orthodontics.
