When your child needs pediatric eye surgery, it’s natural for you to be concerned. After all, it’s your child’s vision — yet you can feel confident that our pediatric eye surgeons at Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Fleming Island, Fla. have the experience and expertise to provide an exceptional level of care for your child.
In fact, Nemours pediatric ophthalmologists have been named among the Best Doctors in America® for several years in a row. Our eye surgeons are specially trained and highly skilled in performing delicate eye surgery for kids, from relatively common procedures such as pediatric strabismus surgery or pediatric cataract surgery, to laser eye surgery.
We encourage you to ask any questions you may have about your child’s procedure and pediatric eye surgery, and we pledge to do all we can to help your child achieve the healthiest vision possible.
Parents often have questions about the anesthesia. Rest assured that during any pediatric eye surgery or procedure that requires anesthesia, our board-certified Nemours pediatric anesthesiologists are right there to make decisions on the best types of medicine to keep your child comfortable.
With specialized training and years of experience, our anesthesiologists are able to provide the highest quality care to even the youngest or most medically fragile patients. We encourage you to share any concerns or questions you may have about anesthesia or sedation.
To help you and your child understand and prepare for a surgical procedure, ask about our unique EmmiKids videos that make complex medical information easy-to-understand. Emmi® has an online program specifically about anesthesia. Your doctor will give you a special code that will allow you to access your EmmiKids program from any computer.
Preparing your child for pediatric eye surgery is not as hard as you might think. The key is sharing information at your child’s level of understanding, correcting misconceptions, and dispelling any fears your child may have.
With a very young child, you don’t have to say much in advance, but do encourage older children to ask questions and even bring a list of questions for your doctor.
At Nemours, we recognize the importance of the family in the care and healing process. We understand that no one knows your child better than you do — and that you’re one of the most important members of your child’s care team. That’s why we make every effort to include you in the process and to create a close relationship built on mutual respect, collaboration and education.
To ensure everyone is on the same page (including your primary care provider or pediatrician) your entire medical care team has access to our award-winning electronic health record system that keeps track of every visit, every test result and every procedure at Nemours.
And you can access select parts of your child’s health record through MyNemours, our secure portal that allows you to interact with your care providers and request prescription refills online, anytime.
