Apnea
Caregivers in neonatology (care of newborns and premature babies) and pulmonary medicine diagnose, treat, and manage children with apnea and related disorders. Advanced practice nurses coordinate the services these children need, provide in-hospital education for parents and caregivers and offer ongoing support once the child leaves the hospital.
Nurses teach families how to perform CPR and how to use a home apnea monitor. They also follow up with families after the baby leaves the hospital, arrange outpatient visits, and are available by phone to answer any questions.
A social worker helps families with insurance issues and arranging for electrical and technical equipment.
Nemours also operates a state-of-the-art Sleep Center at the hospital. Here our team of experts in respiratory care and sleep medicine use state-of-the-art tools and tests to help diagnose sleep apnea as well as a whole range of children’s sleep-related problems.
