Technology Assisted Care

Our Technology Dependent Program supports infants and children who cannot breathe without the help of a ventilator (a machine that moves air into and out of the lungs) or other assistive device. Children who require assisted breathing often have tracheostomies (an opening made in the child’s windpipe to enable breathing). The tracheostomy tube is inserted in this opening and attaches to the ventilator or other type of breathing equipment.
Other types of breathing assistance include CPAP (or continuous positive airway pressure), which is a machine that helps children with sleep apnea breathe more easily, and BiPAP (or bi-level positive airway pressure), which is similar to CPAP but used to treat conditions other than sleep apnea.
Our registered and certified respiratory care practitioners provide services under the leadership of pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and critical care specialists.
