In fact, we are a regional leader in minimally invasive urologic procedures and routinely utilize robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery. We also have the region’s only biofeedback program for helping kids with voiding dysfunction.

Because our pediatric urology team is dedicated only to children, we know kids and understand how conditions involving urologic or genital problems can impact your child and family. We strive to recommend treatment plans that offer the least invasive and most effective solutions possible.

We also provide a Spina Bifida Clinic that gives children with this condition access to a team of specialists – including orthopedists, neurosurgeons, and urologists – who can manage all of their medical needs in one place.

Pioneering Pediatric Robotic Urologic Surgery

If surgery is needed for your child, we realize that you want all the information possible in order to make the best decision, so we take the time to explain each option, always looking for the least invasive method for faster healing and return to normal activities.

Our Nemours urologists are helping to advance robotic surgery for children, who are often under 2 years of age. Our surgeons regularly perform robotic surgery at Wolfson Children’s Hospital using the da Vinci® robotic system that provides 3D imagery and views at 15-times magnification.

About Anesthesia

Parents often have questions about the anesthesia used for their child’s surgery. You can rest assured that during any urologic procedure that requires anesthesia, our board-certified Nemours pediatric anesthesiologists are right there with your child to make decisions on the best types of anesthesia medicine to make sure your child is comfortable.

Helpful Videos

We can also help you and your child understand and prepare for a surgical procedure through our unique EmmiKids videos that make complex medical information easy-to-understand. Emmi® has online programs on hypospadias, circumcision, and orchiopexy (moving an undescended testis). Your doctor will give you a special code that will allow you to access your EmmiKids program from any computer.

A Special Clinic Devoted to Children's Voiding Issues

Led by an experienced nurse practitioner working in conjunction with our urologic specialists, our Gastro-Uro Clinic provides comprehensive, coordinated services for children with voiding dysfunction, such as urinary and fecal incontinence, urinary frequency and urgency, recurring urinary tract infection (UTI), failure to toilet train, and chronic constipation.

We are also proud to offer a unique Biofeedback Program, one of the first in North Florida, that uses fun, interactive games to help children learn to manage their voiding issues.

Nemours urology specialists are educators as well as doctors. We have a residency agreement with Mayo Clinic and University of Florida and all of our physicians have Clinical Associate Professorships at Mayo Clinic.
