For Health Professionals

Nemours BrightStart! researches, develops, and offers evidence-based tools targeting young children at risk for reading failure, which affects 30% or more
of our nation’s children.

Literacy as Preventive Medicine

Studies have shown that literacy level is the strongest single predictor of adult health status. It is also a major child health issue, as it can disrupt development in academic, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and social domains. Parents often seek help from their pediatricians when their child struggles in school.

We believe health care providers have a great opportunity to guide parents with simple tips that may help put their child on a path to reading success.

Through strategic integration with other Nemours programs, Nemours BrightStart! provides a continuum of child health services from prevention to tertiary care. The pediatric medical and research expertise within Nemours, combined with expertise from the fields of early childhood education and learning disorders, make Nemours BrightStart! a unique program — and the only one of its kind.

Being Part of the Nemours Model of Care

The very existence of Nemours BrightStart! is a wonderful example of the Nemours mission and vision.
