NHPS Applauds Gov. Markell for Council on Health Order
Executive Order 19 Creates the Council on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Nemours commends Governor Jack Markell for Executive Order #19, which demonstrates his leadership in the prevention of chronic disease in Delaware. Seven out of ten deaths and the vast majority of serious illness, disability, and health care costs are caused by chronic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. With Executive Order #19, the Governor has established a Council on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention charged with advising the Governor on strategies, policies, programs and other actions statewide to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent lifestyle-related disease. Nemours anticipates major progress in efforts to reduce childhood obesity as well as other chronic conditions in Delaware as a result of this Executive Order. We applaud the Governor for his foresight and commitment to the long term health of the citizens of Delaware.
