Bereavement Support Services

The death of a loved one, particularly a child, requires the strongest support possible — for the whole family. That’s why we’ve designed a bereavement (grief) support program at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware that includes grief counseling and family support.

Our services include professional counseling, support for siblings, support groups, a family workshop and a camp for grieving siblings.

Bereavement Support Services

If you’ve lost a child, it’s essential for you and your family to have help with addressing your emotions and coping with your loss. Our team members have the training and experience to compassionately help you through this process.

Counseling

We offer professional grief counseling with a licensed clinical social worker trained in individual, couples, family and child therapy. The social worker can help you and your family through the grieving process, guiding you to find the inner strength you need and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

Child Life Support Service for Siblings

Our Child Life specialist has extensive experience in providing bereavement support — helping young children and teenagers deal with the loss of their sibling through play, art and discussion.

Art for Our Hearts Workshop

This family art workshop is offered four times a year. Families work together to make art that expresses and explores different emotions and topics in creative ways. The finished artwork can serve as a beautiful memory of family time together. The workshop helps parents and their children connect with one another, deal with their grief, and create a lasting memory through the use of different art media. The workshop meets at the Ronald McDonald House, 1901 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE (across the street from the Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware campus). For more information, please contact the Palliative and Supportive Care Team, at (302) 651-4863.

Camp Molly

Camp Molly is for children and teens ages 8–17 who have experienced the death of a sibling. This free weekend sleepover camp provides a fun, safe place where kids can participate in camp activities and connect with others who have experienced similar loss. Camper applications are available in January and due by the beginning of March.
