Volunteer Opportunities for High School Students
Our summer high school volunteer program places students 14 years of age and older in many different positions throughout Nemours.
All volunteers receive training to prepare them for their volunteer positions. Below are brief descriptions of positions available. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday, in 4-hour shifts: from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon or 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Openings for these positions change constantly. We strive to match volunteers with the assignment, day, and time that best meets their needs as well as ours. Positions are subject to availability.
NOTE: Positions with an asterisk (*) are also available at our Lake Mary clinic.
Guest Relations Volunteer. Our guest relations volunteers provide the first contact with families and visitors. Volunteers need to be kind, smiling, patient, and willing to give directions. Primary duties include welcoming patients and assisting with way-finding in the clinic. You can meet and visit with many new people every day. This position also performs light clerical duties.
Waiting Room Volunteer.* This is a very popular and fun volunteer activity! Volunteers provide recreational activities to patients in our waiting rooms. If you like to play, do arts and crafts, and color, then this is the volunteer position for you.
Roving Readers.* Do you love to read? Share that love with children by roaming through the waiting rooms and reading out loud to the patients.
Magical Mobile Puppet Theater. Do you have a flair for the dramatic? Here is your opportunity to perform short skits using puppets for the patients in the waiting rooms.
Administrative/Clerical.* Assist staff by copying, filing, and answering telephones. Your time and skills will be put to good use!
Information Technology. Work on various projects in our IT department. You may learn some new computer skills!
Health Information Management (HIM). Health Information Management (HIM) maintains an accurate and complete record of health care information for all patients treated. Volunteers in HIM may assist with preparing and scanning documents into the electronic medical system and other clerical duties.
